What is Agentic AI?

*

Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that exhibit “agency”—the capacity to act autonomously to achieve specific goals.

Unlike passive chatbots (e.g., standard ChatGPT) that simply respond to prompts, an Agentic AI like Moltbot:

  1. Plans: Breaks down a complex user request (“Build a website”) into smaller steps.
  2. Acts: Uses tools (File System, Browser, Terminal) to execute those steps.
  3. Reflects: Observes the output of its actions and corrects course if errors occur.
  • Passive AI: You ask for code, it prints code. You have to copy-paste and run it.
  • Agentic AI: You ask for an app, it writes the files, installs dependencies, runs the server, and fixes bugs if it crashes.

Moltbot is a prime example of Agentic AI. It runs locally on your machine (e.g., Mac Mini M4) and acts as a virtual pair programmer, taking over the “doing” part of development.
